35 Years of Serving Generations
2024 begins with Starting Point celebrating 35 years of service to Knox County. We are excited about reaching young people and helping families by supporting them through the generations.
When I think of generations, I think of my parents, myself and my children spanning the decades! Many people know that I have been a foster parent in Knox County for over 10 years. Over 25 children have come through our home and our hearts. I don’t think I would have even considered fostering if it hadn’t been for my aunt and uncle introducing foster care to my mom and dad when I was a child. My parents became foster parents and helped several children (through foster and adoption) over the years. My brother and I are both second-generation foster parents! It became important to us because it was important to our parents. What things are important to you because of your grandparents or parents?
What is the most important legacy you want to pass on to the next generation? Likely, you can think of several things that you value.
Here at Starting Point, we value people! We want to share God’s truth and love to all generations! We want people of all generations to know that we are here for them: A young woman facing an unplanned pregnancy A teen navigating the current culture that’s pressing in on all sides A grandparent who is helping their single daughter raise their grandchildren A newly widowed woman looking for opportunities to serve and to be part of something special A young man wanting to be the best he can be for his growing family and even . . . A 40-something-year-old woman who realizes that the abortion she had as a college student is still affecting her today. Starting Point is here for everyone, from any generation.
