American Dream - Myth or Mission?

American Dream - Myth or Mission?

The “American Dream,” to live a happy, healthy life and build a family and home where everyone is productive and stable, is getting farther out of reach for Ohioans.

One Relationships Under Construction middle and high school instructor asked the classes he taught, “How many of you want to grow up, get married and have a family?” Without fail, 99% of the hands would go up.

In partnership with the Institute for Family Studies, Center for Christian Virtue has published an in-depth report demonstrating how the future of our state and nation lies in strong marriages and families. The report titled “Hope and a Future” can be found at www.CCV.org/Hope.

Ohio ranks near the bottom of states in family structure health. When family structure health decreases, we see a rise in child poverty, violence, poor academic outcomes and a decrease in population. These are alarming results for Knox County. So, what do we do now?

Being aware of the problem is the first step in overcoming the core issues. Over the next several months, we will be sharing what was revealed on this report and what we can do to counter the trends. Supporting families with education and resources gives us a “Starting Point” to right here in our community. Through prayer, volunteering and partnership, you can become an ally for young families and help them realize the American Dream is still possible!
