The Value of Partnership by Brit Eaton

The Value of Partnership by Brit Eaton

I saw a bumper sticker recently that read, “God is pro-life.”

I certainly can’t disagree with the statement. But I also can’t help but wonder if we believers know what pro-life really means. Yes, God is for developing infants. And God is also for the poor, the abused, the neglected, the vulnerable, the abandoned, and the marginalized.

He’s for scared moms questioning their value and worth.

He’s for overwhelmed dads who don’t know how to be fathers.

He’s for families on the edge, clinging to grace with every last breath.

He’s for leaders moved with compassion to reform a broken system

He’s for the villages it takes to help raise up the next generation. And the next. And the next.

God isn’t just pro-life. He’s pro-ALL-life. Each and every one of us, he calls by name.

“But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 (ESV)

Just like Jacob, we are all created beings. And like Israel, we are being transformed into a people after God’s own heart. When we ask God to break our hearts for what breaks his, he will take us at our word.

Valuing life at every stage takes more than bumper stickers, marches, and carefully casted votes. It takes a willingness to challenge systemic issues, take responsibility for the hurting in our communities, and love unconditionally —recklessly, even —just like Jesus.

Starting Point embodies my family’s pro-ALL-life beliefs, caring not only for developing infants but the mothers, fathers, and families who will one day raise them. We give to support a sustainable infrastructure that empowers people to choose the abundant life Jesus died for.
