One Cent

How many times have you been walking along the sidewalk and seen a penny lying on the ground? It’s not even worth the time to pick it up. Our culture has deemed pennies worthless and disposable, going so far as to stop production of the “one cent coin.” I want to challenge you to think differently about them as they come across your path.

In 2025, the leading cause of death WORLDWIDE was abortion, killing 72 million people. Ohio was responsible for 25,135 of those deaths. Like a penny, our culture has deemed pre-born life worthless and disposable. Let that sink in. Human life is worthless to our culture.

The abortion pill, called a “medical abortion”, now accounts for 60% of abortions in our state and can be retrieved from online vendors without any healthcare supervision. In Ohio, 89% of women who obtained abortions were unmarried, and sadly, 560 girls were minors when they made this life-changing choice. These are the young women we are here to help.

Often, we try to correlate the baby growing in the womb to something we can see, feel and touch. At just 9 weeks’ gestation a pre-born baby is the size of a penny. This “One Cent” can remind you of the many moms we serve at Starting Point and the pre-born lives we are all called to protect.

We can also read the words “One Cent” on the backside of the penny. It reminds us that we are the “One Sent” to serve, love and educate the young people who come into the center. Each person in the Starting Point Family (volunteer, prayer warrior, financial partner, event sponsor, board member, and staff member) is a missionary right here in our community.

When you see a penny, take a moment to pray for the pre-born babies at just

9 weeks’ gestation and the local missionaries who are called to protect and serve them and their families. These prayers are vital to the ministry and growth of Starting Point. We need prayer warriors from our SP Family to be lifting staff, volunteers and clients to the Lord daily. The prayers are a gift, and no gift is too small.

Pray and ask the Lord what He would have you give today to support the work and ministry of Starting Point - knowing we are called to go into all the world to preach the gospel, knowing that we are called to protect the pre-born and knowing we are called to serve those around us, bringing truth and love to them.
