A Community for Fathers
At Starting Point we want to encourage young men to grow not only in their role as new fathers but also as leaders of their homes. One father-to-be had an appointment at Starting Point before his girlfriend joined the program because he was excited about building a strong foundation for his growing family. He hoped that we would have the support and answers he needed to be his best.
Our Male Client Advocates are building trusting relationships of support for these young men. The relationships with our male mentors are reaching outside of the center walls - through calls, texts and even coffee meet-ups. The young men stay engaged, developing hope for their growing families.
One male mentor, Justin, described his appointment with a male client. Justin stated, “I let the client lead the discussion during the appointment to see what sparks the young man’s interest. Sometimes it’s relationship concepts, spiritual matters, or pregnancy questions, but often it is parenting tips and tricks. One recent dad wanted to learn all about colicky babies and how to help if his child was struggling.”
It takes strong families to build strong communities. We are helping to preserve our heritage by giving support to young men and encouraging them to lead well in their homes.
