Meet Starting Point’s Youngest Donor

Meet Starting Point’s Youngest Donor

If you have attended a Knox County church within the last few weeks, you are probably familiar with our tagline “It only takes one donor filling one bottle to change one life.”

This phrase encompasses the truth and power of our Baby Bottle Campaign. In this very moment, hundreds of families in neighboring towns are actively collecting spare change to benefit the young families of Starting Point. However, it only takes one to change a life.

At the young age of nine-years-old, Elise Nunn is a perfect example of such significance.

Over the last four years, Elise has viewed the Baby Bottle Campaign as her opportunity to make a difference. Though she is still too young to work any sort of regular paying job, she does not let that deter her from giving what she can.

Throughout the year, Elise is hard at work creating jewelry and drawing pictures that she sells to her friends and family with the proceeds going directly toward filling her baby bottle.

Elise’s reputation of giving has even spread to her friends. Her mother pointed out that some of her neighbors are sure to bring Elise some of the change they find, knowing she is focused on collecting donations.

When asked why she does this year after year, Elise’s response was simple. “Because I love babies,” she stated plainly. What a sweet reminder that giving doesn’t have to be complicated!

Supporting a cause we believe in can often seem like a daunting task. The voice inside our head often whispers words of doubt and uncertainty, eager to convince us that our seemingly small contribution makes no difference in the grand scheme of things. . . that our efforts make no significant impact.

Instead of believing those lies, believe this: Your small gesture of filling a little plastic bottle makes an impact. . . a BIG one!

Just last year, this fundraiser brought in nearly $40,000.

Did you catch that? $39,443.17 (to be exact) was raised simply because individuals like Elise believed their small contribution would make an impact. It did.

The funds raised helped provide resources such as options counseling, medical services, pregnancy/parenting classes and material assistance all at no cost to our clients.

It is easy to see how Elise has built a Legacy of One. I encourage you to hold her story close to your heart during this Baby Bottle Campaign. May we let her childlike and unwavering faith in her ability to make a difference be of encouragement to us all.

What might your Legacy be?
